But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed. We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.
What writer of fiction could have imagined such a story? Which of the gods of whom we read even begins to compare? And yet You, the One and Only God – through whom and by whom all was made that has been made – has done just that. You have taken our nature upon Yourself. You have taken upon Yourself all of the sins, sicknesses and degradation of humankind, past present and future. You have suffered and died in our place – and this so that we, the unfaithful and ungrateful one’s, might move from darkness and separation into Your eternal Love, Light and Life. You have done this so that we might be set free from sin and its consequences. You have done this so that we might become whole and complete in ways that we cannot imagine – because we have no comprehension of what that means, except in Jesus. You have done this so that we might experience life in all its fulness, know a joy that is complete and a peace that is everlasting. You have done this so that we might know what it is to be loved, and to love, creatively, powerfully and without limit. You have done this because You love us, that much and more.
There is, neither in reality nor unreality, a god like You.
Thank You so much!
To him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy– to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen.
