The heavens declare the glory of God;
the skies proclaim the work of his hands.
Day after day they pour forth speech;
night after night they display knowledge.
There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard.
Their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world.
We have used the gifts and technology that You have given us – but the lights of the world have hidden the lights in the heavens. We no longer see them. Yet they declare your glory. We can neither count them nor account for them. We cannot grasp the enormity of the created universe, nor even the silent size of the stars and planets. Betelgus, not the greatest yet with a diameter more than double the distance between the sun and the earth. The Milky Way, measuring more than 100 000 light years across. We try to reduce it all to the level of our existence, and to comprehend and explain it within the minute capacity of our minds. Instead we should marvel, lost in wonder and praise of so great and glorious a God.
